Ancient Greece

Today we had an Ancient Greek talk to us about life in his country about 2500 years ago.

Look at these Ancient Greek artefacts.
Can you remember what they are made from and what they are used for?

What could this be?

Hollie dressed as an Ancient Greek.

Joe strikes a piece of steel against a flint stone. Sparks came off it.     These were used to light some linen to start a fire.

In the afternoon we moved to the hall.

Scary Greek soldier!

Science

Scientists at work! Does air have weight?

One balloon has air in and the other doesn't. What happened? How did we keep our test fair? What did this show?

Scientists at work again! Do solids contain air?

What happened when we squeezed a sponge under water?
What can you see coming out of the sponge?

We recorded our experiment - Question, prediction, results, diagram, conclusion.

Trojan horse models

After learning about the Greek story of the Trojan Horse, we designed and made our own model of one.

We looked at templates before drawing our own.

We were shown how drawing rectangles could help us draw a horse shape.

Solid, Liquid or Gas?

Science
We are molecules standing close together - we represent a solid.

We are molecules moving about a bit - we represent a liquid.

We moved about all around the classroom - we represented a gas.

Mr Riley came in to teach us. He will be our Year 6 teacher. He brought in his puppets. Can you remember their names?

Before we saw them we had to draw them from a description we were given.

Music on a Greek theme!

We enjoyed working co-operatively in groups, composing and playing our own music.

Fire Service Visit

Today our local Stanks Firefighters came into class to talk to us about fire safety in the home, as well as the importance of wearing a seat belt when travelling in a car.

Would you know how to get out of your house quickly if there was a fire?

Do you always wear a seatbelt when travelling in a car?
