We have another exciting event ahead of us this term! On Friday 24th May we will be having our fantastic FAB Fry-Day where teachers, parents and students all get together for a great breakfast. Can't wait to see you all there!

Beat For A Treat BBQ Afternoon!

Our Beat For A Treat target this term for attendance is 93.8% - If we can hit this target we will be going outside for the whole afternoon, putting on some music, enjoying the sunshine (hopefully!) and having a BBQ!

Good luck Year 5  - I love BBQs so I really hope we can achieve our target.

Learn by Heart - First Test on Friday!

Please find below the revision sheet for our first Learn by Heart task.

Our Learn by Heart test will take place this Friday before our Big Write. There will also be a second test on the following Friday to make sure that everything has stayed in our heads.

There's Snow Time Like The Present!

As we have had a snow day today, I thought I would take the time to update our blog with some of the things we have been getting up to in the past two weeks.

If you watch the slide show below you should be able to see us researching and presenting information on our new topic - Earth and Beyond!

You will also be able to see Alice's amazing alliteration, Davey's delightful similes, a magnificent method for multiplication and some helpful hints for hopeful historians!

Our Creative Week

We have had a very creative week in Year 5!

On Tuesday we were visited by Peter Swidrak who showed us some wonderful artwork. We were then set about the task of identifying features from each piece of art - some of them were hidden very sneakily!

After this, Peter gave us pieces of paper with very simple shapes drawn on them. Our task was to use our creativity to transform these basic shapes in to full drawings. You can see some of our wonderful work in the slideshow below.



You can also see some of our decorated biscuits from Friday on the slideshow; they didn't last long!

Finally, I hope to see many of you at our Christmas Production next week - Year 5 have worked really hard to learn our songs and can't wait to show them off to everyone!

Talk 4 Writing Homework

Your Talk 4 Writing homework this week is to learn the lyrics to our two Christmas songs!

To do this you could write down key words from the song, make up actions to go along with the lyrics or simply keep singing them until they are stuck in your head!

You can look up the lyrics online or listen to the songs and write them down from there.

P.C. Peatfield, Spelling Performances & Piñatas Getting Pummelled

On Tuesday we were visited by P.C. Peatfield who talked to us about effect crime has on every one of us.

Spelling Performances

We have been learning our spellings a little differently this week...

Some of us performed them in puppet shows...

... and some of us wrote plays.

Maths Update!

Over the past two weeks in maths we have been looking at different methods for addition and subtraction.

This week, we looked at the expanded method. Would anyone like to try solving sum below using the expanded method?

We also had another unusual visitor this week - a fire-breathing dragon with a taste for Haribo! Here are some photos of our fearless Year 5 Dragon Slayers.

Before taking aim, everyone was blindfolded and had to
spin around 3 times.

We were all glad we stood back when Keira took her shot!

But even after taking a thorough bashing from Alice, the
dragon held firm and Mr. Harrison had to deliver the
final blow!

And there were sweets for everyone!

Elle's Blog Update!

School of Nightmares

Over the past two weeks we have been looking at a story about the School of Nightmares. First, we discussed what we thought it was about, then we discussed what we thought it meant when it said there are no ghosts, ghouls or monsters only what the people had created and we talked about the types of monsters and that bullies that in someone else’s eyes are monsters.

The following week we got some black paper and some white chalk and we drew a picture of the school using our imagination with one condition... no spiders! Mrs Gray is petrified of them! When we had finished our picture Mrs. Gray sprayed them with hairspray to stop them from smudging J

Presentation Mondays

We have recently started doing Presentation Monday. Last week our theme was our Sea Monster and this week it is an open presentation. We can present our presentation anyway we want on PowerPoint; from black to purple backgrounds from evil eyes to skull and crossbones J
